A New Day
This site has been neglected – dormant really – for the past five years or so as other priorities, both real and self-made, pushed it to the side. I’ve been planning for a couple of years to redesign and relaunch it and – at last – here it is. What enabled me to finally get it done? Unfortunately, it is the devastating COVID-19 pandemic and the extra time while we shelter in place, waiting for a return to normal life.
Will it be a return to normal? Scientists still have much to learn about the virus, and how it can be prevented and cured. I suspect most of what we consider “normal” will return…eventually. There are daily pandemic reminders, starting with too many deaths, that can’t end soon enough. And let’s hope that “social distancing” is a term that fades from our memories, though I’m skeptical.
Hopefully we’ll learn a few lessons from this awful experience, such as being more mindful not to take things that matter for granted, and perhaps appreciating healthcare workers a little more. Certainly we’re all likely to wash our hands better than ever before!
Another takeaway for me is to not waste the gift of time, a gift that allowed me to finally relaunch this site. That means keeping it current and vibrant. For those who share my enjoyment of photography and nature, I hope you visit often. I would like to think that it serves as a pleasant distraction while this ordeal continues, and an ongoing reminder of the beauty around us. It is a new day for this site, and we all look forward to a new day once the crisis has passed.
